📌 Notes from Denmark As part of work, I set off for the town of Tønder in Denmark right after Easter. The journey was quite long – first by car from Krāslava to Jelgava, then a few hours of sleep, so I could be at Riga Airport around 5 AM, fly to Copenhagen and then to Billund, followed by a bus to Esbjerg and a train to Tønder. Denmark felt very unhurried, peaceful, smiling, and open. At least this part of it, away from the big city bustle – full of beautiful black soil plains, animal farms, small houses and compact yards cozily lined up next to one another, almost as if holding hands. Denmark is a country where people don’t hide their everyday lives behind curtains, and they don’t wait for age to leave its mark with a crooked gait – they take care of their well-being in good time. I’m not the kind of person who remembers facts from a tour guide’s stories, but what I do remember are the many unique front doors with letter slots ornately displaying the homeowners’ names, a souvenir shop with dozens of rooms on all three floors where I felt like a little girl in a candy store, and the peaceful silence mixed with laughter and smiles from people on a terrace. Would I want to live in Denmark? No – even though it probably is one of the happiest countries in the world. I still need a bit of spark, a little rush and edge, so I can escape to peaceful silence now and then and truly appreciate it. For accommodation during the trip, I stayed at Hotel Tønderhus (3*). While I’m not picky, I would probably choose a different hotel next time. Overall, it wasn’t bad – the room was spacious, with a corridor and a private bathroom, and I had a view over the city from a higher vantage point. Still, cleanliness was lacking, and the eight-legged roommates weren’t exactly a welcome surprise. The journey home was just as long, if not longer – train, bus, flight from Billund to Warsaw and then from Warsaw to Riga, and I still had to get to Jelgava. At the end of the carousel, there was a quick video recap, featuring my tired face wandering through Warsaw Airport, and an even more exhausted one the next morning after just three hours of sleep, now saved in my phone archive. p.s. LOT Airlines was a surprisingly pleasant experience ✈️ #denmark #tønder #flight #worktrip
