Just a short drive from the centre of Marseille, you'll find a modernist icon hiding in plain sight: Cité Radieuse (also known as Unité d’Habitation), Le Corbusier’s iconic "vertical village" from the 1950s - now a proud UNESCO World Heritage site.
From the outside, it might look like a massive concrete block, but step closer and you’ll see it's not just a building. Think bold sculptural shapes, playful colour blocks, clever design details. The rooftop alone is worth the visit, which was originally designed as a shared space for residents, with ventilation shafts turned into modern art and a kids' pool. Here, you'll be treated to sweeping views of the sea, the mountains, and Marseille itself. To access the roof, walk into the building, leave your name at the counter, and take the elevator to the top.
If you love design, architecture or just great views, add this one to your list!
Tip: the easiest way to get there is by car, and you’ll usually find street parking nearby.
