Hiking in the ‘little swiss’ of Luxembourg
In east Luxembourg, near Germany, is an area called Müllerthal. This region is known for it’s beautiful nature and therefore it’s also called ‘little Swiss’. It’s a region you definitely don’t want to miss out during your trip to Luxembourg! There are many hiking routes in this region, the most famous one being the 112km long route called the Müllerthal trail. Most people do this route in different stages or just partly. Because we had just one day we decided to first visit the Schiessentümpel waterfall, after which we did the so-called hiking route B2.

Beaufort Castle
If you are not sick of castle hunting yet you can first stop at Castle Beaufort. This castle is a ruin that is made up of a castle and fort in one. For only 5 euros you can also visit the inside ( unfortunately we didn’t have time) The castle is ideal to combine with a visit to the Mullerthal region, also called ‘little swiss’.

De Schiessentümpel waterfall
De Schiessentümpel waterfall is easy to visit and there is no need for long hikes to get there. Park your car at the Schiessentümpel parkingspot and from there it’s just an easy 5-10 minute walk to get there. When we visited it was a holiday weekend and in the middle of the day so it was pretty crowded and not possible to get photos of the waterfall without any people(thankgod for removal apps). So If you want to get a photo without people best to come early. However the light was absolutely beautiful in the middle of the day.

Hiking in the 'little swiss' of Luxembourg
From the Schiessentümpel waterfall we drive to the village called Berdorf. We park the car at a big parking lot close to a school. From there you can follow the B2 route with the route markers. The route will cross hanging bridges, rocks, canyons, forest and some rural area. At some point during the hike there are options to walk on top of the rocks to get a beautiful view over the area. At the end of route you end up near the visitor centre in Berdorf. Near the visitor centre is a cafe called Bistro Martbusch where we enjoyed a well deserved iced-coffee. I highly enjoyed the area of Mullerthal and it did give me some feeling of being in Swiss, or least far away from the flat Netherlands!
