Esch-sur-Sûre

Castle Esch-sur-Sûre is a castle in the village with the same name as the aforementioned castle; Esch-sur-Sûre. The castle is located on a hill in the middle of the village, surrounded by the Sûre-river. The castle, dating back to the 13th century, has seen many changes. It’s purpose used to be a strategic fort and later it became a residence for the royal families. These days the castle is more of a ruin than an actual castle, but still definitely worth a stop because of the beautiful idyllic surrounding. The best view on the castle is from a viewpoint on the hill that can be reached with a short hike. The hike starts behind hotel & restaurant ‘Le Postillon’ and follow the path uphill to the left. It takes about 5 minutes to reach the top.

Vianden Castle

The Vianden Castle is the biggest castle of Luxembourg and definitely one not to miss out on on your trip to Luxembourg! The castle, which looks like it’s straight coming out of an medieval fairytale, has an extensive history (it was built on roman ruins) which you can learn more about inside in the museum. Inside the castle you can visit different rooms including a chapel, dining room, bedroom and kitchen in medieval style. The costs for entry is 10€p.p. The castle is open to visit from 10 am to 4 pm every day. (in March and October closing time is 5 pm and in the summer months 6 pm) In the summer there is also an medieval festival, ‘The Knights' Festival’, taking place at the castle, including musicians, live birds and battle demonstrations!

Castle Meysembourg

Castle Meysembourg is a beautiful castle in the middle of Luxembourg. This charming castle is a hidden gem, surrounded by forests and hills. The surrounding of castle Meysembourg as a residence goes back to the 12th century and the current castle was built in 1880 in neorenaissance style. The castle has kept its charm throughout the years by multiple renovations to keep its original charm and style. Unfortunately it’s privately owned so the inside can’t be visited. However this castle is still worth a stop in my opinion because of its beautiful exterior and surroundings!
