A daytrip to luxurious luxembourg city

Luxembourg city is the capital of Luxembourg, located in the southern part of this small country. For a capital city it’s a very compact city and therefore very walkable. The ideal citytrip if you are in the area and it’s perfect to combine with a full weekendtrip to Luxembourg!

Parc des Trois Glands

We are starting the day at the so called Kirchberg Plateau and park the car in a parking garage called Parking Trois Glands. This plateau is an elevated part on the northside of the city, where a lot of the European Union institutes are housed. There is also a big park here called Dräi Eechelen Park or Parc des Trois Glands. At the park a big Fort is located as well called Fort Thüngen. Another notable mention at the park is the Grand Duke museum of modern art. The park has great views over the greenery of the city!

Pfaffenthal

From the Park Drai Eechelen walk downhill to get to the city centre of Luxembourg city. The route is not always well marked but if you get lost ask directions from the local people. At some point you end up in a residential area. From here follow the directions towards the panoramic elevator Pfaffenthal. This elevator is free and will get you to the city centre which is higher up.

Window shopping

What I enjoy the most about a citytrip is to wander around, and look for those hidden gems; cute cafés and boutique shops. Another great thing to do it to photograph pretty buildings, you will find these here for sure. Overall there are not a lot of sights to be seen in Luxembourg, but there are a few worth mentioning. Two noticeable mentions are the Cathedral of Luxembourg and the Palais Grand-Ducal. Because Luxembourg is a prosperous town you will also find many luxury shops here(but I just stick to window shopping).

Lunchtime

From all that walking around you get will hungry! Luckily there are a lot of options for nice places to eat in Luxembourg. We decided to stop for lunch at a place called Cocettes, which is a chain café that has a lot of locations over the Benelux area.

Panoramic viewpoint

After walking around the city centre we went to visit the Notre-Dame Cathedral of Luxembourg. We chilled in the sun for a bit near the Cathedral and walked across the street. Here you get a great view over the greenery, the beautiful Neumünster Abbey building and the big Adolfsbridge!

Ending the day

Atthe end of the day enjoy a delicious meal before heading back. Luxembourg is an international city with lots of cuisines to choose from! After a lovely dinner at a delicious thai restaurant called Thai Celadon our visit to Luxembourg city had come to an end. We returned to the car by walking across the Red Bridge, also called Pont Grande-Duchesse Charlotte. This bridge offers again stunning views over the city of Luxembourg. Because there was a marathon (Luxembourg ING Night Marathon) on the same day of our visit it was quite tricky to get back to the car! Because a lot of roads were blocked and there were a lot of detours. So maybe If you plan to visit Luxembourg check in advance for any marathons! In the end we did make it back (after secretly sneaking underneath the lint right across from the parking garage 😛)
