From Malta to Gozo by ferry

We drove our rental car straight onto the ferry (in Valletta)—no need to buy a ticket in advance, at least in the low season (we went in February). The crossing was short and easy, and before we knew it, we were on a whole new island. Good to know: you only pay on the way back, per person and for the car.

Little bay, little hike

Once on Gozo, we headed to Mgarr ix-Xini, a charming little bay tucked between rocky cliffs. From there, we hiked up to Mgarr ix-Xini Tower and continued to Ras il-Hobz, a scenic spot by the coast. It was the perfect walk to get some fresh air and enjoy the views. In summer, this must be an amazing place to snorkel and swim!

Sunset at Ta' Pinu Basilica

I can recommend visiting Ta’ Pinu Basilica, or the "The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin" during sunset. The golden light made the mosaics on the outside glow. The square in front of the church was really peaceful, with stunning views stretching over the island. Everything just felt right—the golden architecture, the scenery, the soft evening light. A perfect moment to take it all in.

Lunch with a view

It’s lovely to have lunch at Xlendi Beach. This time of year, it’s very relaxing, and you can enjoy great views with your meal. We soaked up the sun from a cozy terrace.

Blue hour at the 'Sunset cliff'

After the sun went down, we drove to the 'Sunset Cliff viewpoint.' It's different from the Sanap Cliffs you’ll find on Google Maps. These stunning limestone cliffs rise about 130 meters above the Mediterranean Sea and offer incredible views of the surrounding coastline and the islands of Malta and Comino.

Wine down at La Sciabordita

La Sciabordita is a brand-new wine boutique and gourmet wine bar in Victoria, Gozo, having just opened in January 2025—and I can definitely recommend it! They offer a fantastic selection of fine wines and delicious food. We shared a platter and some focaccias, which were perfect for a relaxed apéro. The sommelier was incredibly smooth and funny, making the experience even more enjoyable. The place got quite busy later in the evening, so I’d make a reservation in advance!
