Crossing from the iconic dunes of Sossusvlei into the vast, untamed wilderness of Namib-Naukluft National Park, and we're already driving through incredible landscapes! The destination: the remote Namib-Naukluft desert. Time to embrace solitude!
Remote campsite in the middle of the desert
An amazing stopover in the Namib-Naukluft National Park: Bushman's Desert Camp. This incredibly remote spot also offered us the most secluded campsite, with stunning, surreal views—even from the toilet 😉—in the middle of the desert heat.
On the go with a Bushman in the Namibian desert
When you're staying at the Bushman's Desert Camp in the Namib-Naukluft desert, you should definitely go on an afternoon drive with the owner. His name is 'Boesman,' or 'Bushman,' a true desert legend. He lives here with his wife and children and has extensive experience in navigating the desert, his natural backyard. Living in pure simplicity, he’s always barefoot—more connected to nature. During a three-hour drive through the desert, we stopped at various spots where he shared insights about the landscape. We learned about the dunes, the desert’s ecosystem, its wildlife, water sources, desert farming, and the Bushmen. He offered a unique perspective, sharing life lessons and tips on how to survive if we ever found ourselves stranded in the desert. It was original and incredibly fascinating.
Stargazing like never before
In the evening, we cooked some food on our gas stove, but you can also barbecue there. Soon after, it became pitch dark, and we were treated to a stunning view of the Milky Way. Absolutely amazing! It was the perfect place for us to completely unwind. - Night photography by Robin Dams.
