Visit UNESCO World Heritage
Start your weekend in Hoogstraten in Wortel-Colony: a special landscape full of unique stories that has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2021. Visitor center Vallei van het Merkske – Klapekster is the ideal base for a refreshing walk. Choose the Bootjesvenpad (4.5 km) or the Heritage Walk (6.5 km). After your hike, relax with a local beer on the terrace of the visitor center. Are the children a bit older? Then head to Belevingshuis De Landloper and get locked in the escape room. The interior catapults you a hundred years back in time. Will you manage to escape before the jailer catches you?

Picnic at Bootjesven
It's high time for a well-deserved break at one of the most idyllic spots in Wortel-Kolonie. Order your picnic box in advance at the sandwich bar Krox and the box filled with local specialties will be ready for you in the afternoon at the visitor center. Head down to Bootjesven where you can settle on the wooden benches with a view of the water. Lovely, isn't it!
Drive the car to Bredaseweg 3A in Minderhout (8.4 km).
Sjezen with an e-fatbike
After lunch, you exchange your hiking shoes for a funbike. Choose a luxury electric scooter, a treadmill bike, or – our recommendation – an electric fatbike. The children can ride in front or behind. Fun guaranteed! The mapped routes take you past the most beautiful spots in and around Hoogstraten. There is also a child-friendly route with various play locations along the way.
Ride the rental bike to Peperstraat 2 (3 km).
At the table!
Settle down on the spacious, sunny terrace of brasserie Oud Hoogstraeten or choose a table in the historic building with vintage decor. On the menu: Flemish classics, burgers, pasta, salads,… Even the little angels fill their bellies with classics like fries, spaghetti, or vidée.
Return the rental bike at Velofun.
