The Moselle is a delightful region for hiking. The variety of landscapes combined with some elevation changes provide sometimes slightly challenging but above all wonderfully beautiful routes.
Idyllic Hiking: Dream Path Eltzer Burgpanorama
A Dream Path is a route that must meet certain conditions. There is always a succession of open fields, forests, and rocks, and there is always water nearby. There must also be one or more attractions along the route, making the hike even more varied. You start with beautiful views over the Moselle region and the Elzbachtal valley. Through the forest, you reach the stream Elzbach, after which you go uphill via rocky paths. There you will find the highlight of the hike: the fairytale-like Burg Eltz. You then continue the hike through the Elzbach valley. A steep climb, some more forests, and a few open fields will eventually bring you to the endpoint. The Dream Path Eltzer Burgpanorama is a 12.6-kilometer hike and can be considered a moderately difficult route with 397 meters of elevation gain. The starting and ending point is at the village house in Wierschem. The entire route is very well marked and is an absolute recommendation!
