Uyuni, Bolivia

Visit the train cemetery

The first stop of the tour is the eerie train cemetery, just outside of Uyuni. We’re not going to lie, it felt like we were stepping into an old western movie scene. Dozens of abandoned steam locomotives lay scattered, rusting under the bright sun. The train cemetery is definitely not why anyone joins the tour, though we must admit we’ve never seen anything like this before. We spent around half an hour exploring the wrecks and taking some photos, for even more adventure you can also climb on top of the old engines.

Uyuni salt flats (Salar de Uyuni)

Next, it’s time for the highlight you’ve been waiting for: the Uyuni salt flats. From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the endless white landscape stretching out in every direction. It felt surreal, something no photo could truly capture. Early in the tour, you’ll get a chance to take those iconic perspective photos, playing with the flat horizon to create fun illusions. We also took some time to wander and explore the salt flats on our own, capturing amazing views with our drone. If you have a drone, definitely bring it along for a unique perspective on the world’s largest salt flats!

Isla Incahuasi, Bolivia

Incahuasi Island and sunset on the salt flats

Later, you’ll reach Incahuasi Island, where you can explore a mini oasis filled with enormous cacti. Seeing these towering plants in such an unusual spot, surrounded by nothing but white, is another highlight of the day. To finish off our time on the salt flats, we were taken to a secluded spot on the flats to witness an unforgettable sunset, paired with a glass (or more) of delicious Bolivian red wine and some tasty snacks. Simply magical!
