Nyungwe Forest - Cyinzobe trail - Day 2
We started our day early at 7 a.m., ready to hit the trail by 8 am. Today will be the longest leg of our trek—15 km through a mix of swamps, rivers, and lush forest paths. Along the way, we were lucky enough to spot monkeys twice, including the mountain monkey, one of the 14 primate species that lives in the Nyungwe Forest. Just seeing them swing through the canopy in their natural habitat made the hike even more rewarding. As the cherry on top, we spent the night in the most stunning spot: a cabin by the river.

Short break at a waterfall
We paused for a break at a quiet waterfall, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere while keeping our eyes out for birds and more monkeys in the trees around us.

A cabin by the river
Our second camp turned out to be our favorite so far—tucked right beside a river. You could hear the gentle flow of water from our beds and even take a dip to cool off after the long day’s hike. The evening wrapped up with another delicious meal cooked fresh on-site, and we turned in early once again to rest up for the final day of our trail.
