Rwanda
Kigali
On our last day in Kigali, we started with a morning coffee at Niyo Art Cafe before wandering around for some souvenir shopping. Two of our favorite stops were Irebe Baskets and a Rwandan clothing store—both perfect for finding unique gifts. For lunch, we headed to the Muslim Quarter, a charming car-free area filled with restaurants. Just a heads-up: alcohol isn’t served in this neighborhood. Also perfect for souvenir shopping AND supporting a great initiative: Nyamirambo Women Center!

Nyamirambo Women Center
One of my absolute favorite places was the Nyamirambo Women’s Center (NWC). This incredible center offers women free six-month training programs in practical skills like sewing, hairdressing, and more. Alongside these skills, they receive entrepreneurship courses to help them start and run their own businesses. When you visit, you can buy beautiful handmade items created by the women. You can also book a tour to see the women at work, explore the neighborhood, and learn more about the community. NWC also offers workshops in sewing, cooking, and basket weaving. I took part in the basket weaving workshop, and since making a full basket is quite time-consuming and complex, I got to craft my own earrings instead. I loved the welcoming atmosphere and truly admire initiatives like this. If you have time in Kigali, I highly recommend paying them a visit.
