Rwanda
Kigali
We flew out of Brussels with layovers in Vienna and Addis Ababa before finally arriving in Kigali. Once there, we dropped our luggage at our accommodation — a friend’s place in the Kimihurura neighborhood. Not long after landing, we picked up our rental car at AZ Impex, a local rental service run by a friendly Belgian expat. Later that day, we hopped on a motorcycle taxi and visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial Museum — a powerful and sobering place that reflects on one of Rwanda’s darkest chapters. Afterward, we stopped for a drink at Kivu Noir, soaking up the last rays of sunlight from their terrace. We wrapped up the evening with our first taste of African cuisine at Repub Lounge, a lively spot with great food and atmosphere. Tip: Buy an eSIM at the airport and install MoMo (Rwanda’s version of Payconic). It’s super convenient—you can top it up online and use it to pay in shops, restaurants, bars and even taxis straight from your phone.

Soaking in the vibe
With our old-school Nissan Jeep, we took a short drive around the city to get a feel for the place before returning home to freshen up.
