I have always loved walking in nature. It always calms me down so much. Since I was little, I have lived near the National Botanical Garden of Belgium. So when I knew that I could visit the one in Louvain, I was really happy. This botanical garden was created in 1738 by Henri Rega, professor of medicine at the University of Louvain for his students. The place has undergone several transformations since then, was seized by the state then taken over in the 1800s. It was used on numerous occasions as a park, a girls' school, etc. It is now used as originally intended: a botanical garden mixing several types of plants (medicinal, aquatic, fruit, etc.). Entrance is free and you can go there for lots of reasons! Simply because of the desire to walk around, discover the varieties of plants, sit on a bench and read, come have a picnic on one of the park benches, take photos, etc. You can even get lost in the greenhouse which is 450m2 and which, I must say, is truly magnificent. What I like about this place is that there are lots of very cute and intimate little places that allow you to really disconnect. Exhibitions and events are even organized in the orangery at certain times of the year. It’s a real breath of fresh air, calm and disconnection in the middle of the city.
