Standing above the clouds - Pico do Areeiro

Rising 1,818 meters above sea level, Pico do Areeiro is one of Madeira’s most awe-inspiring viewpoints and the island’s third-highest peak. Often wrapped in clouds, it offers a surreal experience where you can stand above the mist, watching a sea of clouds drift between rugged mountain ridges. At sunrise, the landscape is bathed in golden light, transforming the peaks and valleys into a dramatic, otherworldly scene. From here, adventurous hikers can follow the famous trail to Pico Ruivo, the island’s highest point—a challenging yet unforgettable journey through Madeira’s volcanic heart.
